The community's population is over 100,000. It may be reached via the West Coast Express and Highways 7 & 1. The City is bounded by Burrard Inlet and Port Moody on the north, Port Coquitlam to the east, the Fraser River to the south and Burnaby and New Westminster to the west.

Coquitlam's Town Centre leads growth in the area and is home to Coquitlam Centre. Just to the north of the Town Centre is the large BC MLS residential area of Westwood Plateau.
